Hillcrest

As I walked out of the gym one day, I saw this view, lit perfectly by the sunlight. Although I think this building looks like it was done on the cheap, the different colors and sunlight hitting it really looked cool. I rushed home to get my camera and took a photo, which helped guide me when I did this painting. To see more of my art, visit my regular website.

The Mission Inn

I love finding “hidden gems” of architecture; going to a wedding in Riverside over a year ago produced such a gem for me. I had never heard of this historic beauty and was immediately taken over by its many hidden nooks and crannies. A beautiful restoration job has secured it for many more years to come. Here are a few vintage views.

More vintage Los Angeles

Occasionally with my vintage Disneyland slides I get a few stray Hollywood/Los Angeles slides. This July 1963 shot was definitely educational for me. I had never heard of the Angel’s Flight Railway. Apparently an LA landmark that has had a troubled history of late. Anybody know if it is back in operation or permanently shut down? One more shot from August 1957:
